Play Canfield Solitaire with the rules at hand

Start Canfield Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Bring this focus to a round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

Understand the aim

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How your actions work

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Put the rules into context

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Keep the game’s format in mind.

A mistake to avoid

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
