Know the goal in Dominoes

Choose a round of Dominoes and settle into its rules. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

An idea for your next attempt

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your objective

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Use the control method described here for this activity. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Choose a deliberate next step.

Where a round can go wrong

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
