Making your first moves in Ludo

Start Ludo by looking at the playing area and its controls. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the example below to understand a decision. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Bring this focus to a round

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

Understand the aim

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

How your actions work

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Consider the next action carefully.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
